Why I Stopped Writing on Medium.com and Started My Own Blog
How I moved from One source on income to Five with my blog
Hi there,
I hope this newsletter finds you well.
First of all, I want to apologize for the radio silence lately. As many of you know, I've been busy building my business and focusing on my new blog at ilampadman.com. But going forward, I promise to send more frequent newsletters and share my knowledge with you.
Today, I want to share my journey of transitioning from writing on Medium.com to starting my own blog, and the exciting opportunities that have come along with it.
Medium was one of my primary income sources as a writer, but I knew I had more to offer and wanted to explore other opportunities. So, I took the leap and started my own blog at ilampadman.com. And I'm happy to say that it has opened up much more opportunities for me beyond just writing. I've been able to earn through affiliate marketing, paid partnerships, sponsored content, and even writing gigs.
To give you an idea of the difference, I used to make a maximum of $170 per month from Medium. However, with my own blog, I'm able to earn the same amount in less than a week with just one-tenth of the effort.
But what's even more exciting is that my blog has gained over 5K organic traffic in less than 4 months - all thanks to the knowledge I learned from the BGE course. The course has taught me valuable skills such as keyword research, SEO, and more. And now, I'm able to share my experience and help others achieve similar results.
If you're interested in learning more about how I've grown my blog traffic and how you can too, I invite you to check out the BGE course. It's been a game-changer for me and I believe it can be for you too.
While this is an affiliate link, I understand that not everyone may be ready to invest in a course just yet. I wasn’t ready, for 6 months!!
As someone who has gone through the process, I recommend starting with the free masterclass offered by the BGE team. This will give you a better understanding of what blogging involves and help you determine if it's the right path for you before considering any further steps.
Thank you for your support and I look forward to connecting with you more frequently.
Best regards, Ilam
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did you choose to start your own blog instead of continuing to write on Medium?
Although Medium was a great platform, I felt restricted by the revenue-sharing model and wanted to explore other avenues for monetizing my writing. By starting my own blog, I gained greater control over my content and opened up new opportunities for generating income through affiliate marketing, paid partnerships, sponsored content, and writing gigs.
In addition, I wanted to build a scalable business, which wasn't possible on Medium. While you can certainly build a blog on Medium, it doesn't provide the same level of flexibility and scalability as having your own self-hosted blog.
How long did it take for your blog to gain organic traffic?
I started seeing a significant increase in organic traffic after about 2-3 months of consistently publishing quality content and implementing SEO strategies. Within 4 months, my blog had gained over 5K organic traffic.
Here’s an example of how many key words I rank for on Google (via Moz).
Do I need to buy anything to start my own blog?
No, you don't need to buy anything to start your own blog. There are many free resources available online that can help you get started. However, if you're serious about growing your blog and monetizing your content, investing in a blogging course or other resources can be helpful.
Should I buy the BGE course to grow my blog?
While the BGE course has been helpful for me, it's not necessary to buy anything to grow your blog. I recommend checking out the free 90-minute masterclass on blogging offered by the BGE team. It's a great way to learn more about blogging and see if the BGE approach is right for you. I waited for six months before I actually bought the course.
